The windmill rises impressively over the town of Kappeln. Measuring 30 metres it is the highest in the region. The Tourist Information and the registry office are located in it. In addition, there is an exhibition on the function and use of this important technical monument. At the place of a burnt-down predecessor, the tower mill that is built in Dutch style and with a gallery was erected in 1888. In addition to its mighty square foundations it is built solidly of stones in the area of the octagonal shingled upper part and the cap, too. It shows technical innovations of its time: it was driven either by wind or by a steam engine. A rarity is the double use as a flour mill and a sawmill.
