One of the most important Cistercian cloisters of the Land Schleswig-Holstein was located in Reinfeld from the 12th to the 16th century. The local museum presents an extensive collection of finds of this no longer extant cloister building like sectional stones, floor tiles, roof tiles, small ceramic objects and a Gothic Madonna. After the reformation a castle of the Dukes of Plön was erected in place of the cloister in the 16th century. A model of the former castle, engravings and prospects of the castle with its zoo as well as of the town represent this epoch. Reinfeld is well-known as the birth-place of Matthias Claudius (1740-1815). In memory of him first editions of his complete works, pictures, letters and writings are presented in one section of the museum.New: exhibits from the first part of the 20th century.
