Mit den Helmen fand Fritz Vehring eine Form, die seine Arbeiten der letzten Jahre entscheidend bestimmte. Dabei geht es ihm weniger um inhaltliche als um formale Probleme. Ausgehend von zunächst kleineren Arbeiten wuchsen sie in den letzten Jahren zu Größe und Bedeutung. Mit diesem Bedeutungszuwachs ging eine immer konsequentere Verknappung der Form einher; die letzten Arbeiten sind zu nadelscharfer Härte verkürzt, die in ihrer Reduzierung kaum noch überboten werden kann und demzufolge nach Aufgabe augenfälliger Schönheit verlangt. Folgerichtig hat Fritz Vehring in seinen Arbeiten mehr und mehr auf die Glasur verzichtet, so daß sich die späten Arbeiten in klarer Härte präsentieren.
