Die 1856 in Amsterdam geborene Niederländerin Gerta Warburg geb. Rindskopf wurde 1943 in Sobibor ein Opfer des Holocaust. Mit ihrem Mann, dem Bankier Albert Warburg, führte sie seit 1891 an der Palmaille 33 ein großbürgerliches, den Künsten offen stehendes Haus. Die von Gerta Warburg veranstalteten Diners zogen neben Kaufleuten und Wissenschaftlern auch Musiker wie Johannes Brahms und Maler wie Edvard Munch an. Thomas Herbst verkehrte ebenfalls bei Gerta Warburg und macht sie wohl um 1902 mit Ernst Barlach und 1914 mit Franz Nölken bekannt. 1903/04 unterstützte sie Barlach durch die Vermittlung eines Stipendiums. Eigenen künstlerischen Ambitionen ging Gerta Warburg in einem Maleratelier nach, das sie in ihrem Sommerhaus eingerichtet hatte. Das Gebäude befindet sich in der heutigen Baron-Voght-Straße-Straße unweit des Barlach-Hauses.
