Die Kieler Woche erlebte 1934 seit der Kaiserzeit erstmals wieder einen Höhepunkt. Die Nationalsozialisten hatten sich bereits 1933 ihrer bemächtigt, da sie ihn ihr ein Mittel zur proagandistischen Selbstdarstellung sahen. Daneben wurden die Kieler Wochen in den Jahren 1934 und 1935 auch als Generalprobe für die Olympiade 1936 betrachtet. Daher lockte sie zahlreiche in- uns ausländische Segler und Besucher an die Kieler Förde. Darunter auch den Glückstädter Maler Hermann Wehrmann, der in spätimpressionistischer Weise Szenen aus dem Regattaumfeld festhielt.
