Der östliche Teil des Großfl eckens und der Kuhberg wurden 1939 in Adolf-Hitler-Straße umbenannt. Es gab noch weitere Umbenennungen, so hieß die Carlstraße Straße der SA. Erst 1947 erhielten die Straßen ihre alte Bezeichnung zurück. Zwischenzeitlich hatte die englische Besatzungsmacht Namen vergeben: Der Großflecken wurde zum Cromptonplatz, der Kuhberg zur Campbellstraße.
