Die Axt, oder auch Hacke, ist ein Werkzeug und besteht im allgemeinen aus einem stählernen Keil (dem Blatt), der auf einem Holzstab (dem Stiel oder Schaft) befestigt ist. Im Unterschied zum Beil wird die Axt üblicherweise mit beiden Händen geführt. Der Keilwinkel der Axt beträgt etwa 10°. Ihre Form ergibt sich aus dem Anwendungsfall. Quer geschäftete Geräte werden als Dexel bezeichnet. Sie wird heutzutage nurmehr zur Bearbeitung von Holz verwendet.
