The „Archäologische Landesmuseum“ (regional archaeological museum) within the „Stiftung Schleswig-Holsteinische Landesmuseen Schloß Gottorf“ presents the archaeology of the region starting with the Stone Age hunters up to the citizens of medieval towns. The exhibition “reindeer hunters – reindeer herders” deals with the reindeer hunters of the post ice age and the life of the reindeer herding Sami in Northern Europe. The famous bog bodies are the central exhibits in the newly opened special exhibition “Iron Age Man”. The exhibition “village – castle – church – town – Schleswig – Holstein in the Middle Ages” illustrates the life of people in rural areas in towns on the basis of archaeological research.
The bog find of Nydam with the Nydam boat, which is of international importance, is the highlight of the newly designed exhibition in the Nydam hall.The presentation “Ebba Dettenberg-Weddig collection – Ethiopia on the edge of revolution” and the workshop exhibition “on the samurai’s world” show objects from the ethnological collections of the “Christian-Albrechts-Universität” (Kiel University). In addition to the permanent exhibitions there are also special exhibitions on show. |
