One of the most important attractions on the island of Sylt originates from Neolithic times: It is the megalithic tomb “Denghoog” close to Wenningstedt. The meaning of the name is „thing hill“, which is an assembly place. The mound was established as a clan or family tomb in the third millennium before Christ. In the large earthen mound there is a completely preserved polygonal stone chamber roofed with six mighty lintels. The passage and the burial chamber can be visited through a very narrow artificial entrance and over a steep ladder.
