The „Prinzenpalais“, which was built around 1700, is the only preserved three-winged manor-house within the town. Many important personalities owned it. It was named “Prinzenpalais” (prince’s palace) after Friedrich Emil August Prince of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Noer. Today it houses the regional archive that keeps more than 12.000 parchment documents, 90.000 maps, almost 43.000 metres of records on its shelves and nearly 150.000 photographs. The manifold sources cover the Middle Ages up to the present and extend onto all fields like regional, cultural, economic, social, technical and contemporary history. The reference library on regional history contains more than 150.000 volumes.
As a special institution for the preservation of audiovisual sources the regional archive is at the same time the regional film archive of Schleswig-Holstein. All film records of the Land are kept, restored and collected here. The archive also has rooms for changing exhibition on historical topics. |
